In the early 1930s a group of cowboys working as mule wranglers and tourist guides at the Grand Canyon National Park performed traditional cowboy songs, poems, and fiddle music for tourists. They led tourists groups on mules down the Bright Angel Trail to the Colorado River and back in one day and in the evenings entertained guests at the El Tovar Hotel and later at the Bright Angel Lodge.

National Broadcast Company's (NBC) "in progress" radio news program regarding the rescue efforts of WWII Army airmen Maurice Cruickshank, Charles Goldblum and Roy Embank who each parachuted out of their malfunctioning airplane bomber, while flying over the Grand Canyon during a night time training flight on June 29, 1944. These three men ended up in the Grand Canyon, which prompted a search and rescue operation.
