Description

William Coles Bashford (b. 1853 - d. 1915) was one of seven children of Coles Bashford (b. 1816 - d. 1878), the 5th governor of Wisconsin, who eventually moved to Prescott and became a prominent businessman.  William married Mary Louise Evans.  In 1874, William, along with Robert H. Burmister became partners in a store which was then known as L. Bashford and Company.  When Levi Bashford retired in 1886, the business became known as Bashford-Burmister Store Inc.

William purchased a home on the corner of Pleasant and Gurley Streets for $2,000 and enlarged it as his family grew.  The house was later moved to the grounds of the Sharlot Hall Museum.
