Apache man wearing a Tonto war cap, as identified in the book, "The People Called Apache" (1974) by Thomas E. Mails. The cap also resembles a medicine man's cap; however, a medicine man's cap was usually made of owl feathers, while this cap appears to be made of fabric and feathers. Caps such as this were believed to evoke strong supernatural powers that would help and protect the warrior in his endeavors.
