Description

Photo of Frieda Schuerman in front of the camera at the Schuerman Homestead in Red Rock, Arizona Territory. This is the earliest known photograph of the 1913 Homestead House (then whitewashed), with Schuerman Rock in the background.

Johann Georg Heinrich (Henry) Schuerman (b. 1852 - d. 1920) emigrated to the United States from Germany in 1872 and later moved to Prescott, Arizona Territory by 1884, where his cousin, George Schuerman, owned the Sherman Hotel. He married Dorette Titgemeier in 1884 and they settled on a 160-acre farm in Red Rock to grow grapes and produce wine.
