Description

Edward F. "Eddie" Sweeney served as full time salaried, "Toughs", Fire truck driver and assistant chief of the Prescott Fire Department from 1933- 1946.

Eddie was born in 1899 At Columbus, Nebraska. He was the son of Rose and Edward Sweeney Sr.. The Sweeney Family, ultimately moved to Prescott, Arizona. After he graduated from Prescott High School Eddie began work at the Owl Drug and Candy Store. He work ed there until 1933.  He joined the B.O.P.E. Elks Lodge of  Prescott in 1944.

Eddie became a part of  the Prescott Volunteer Fire Department in 1921. He was a member of the "Toughs" hose team. In 1933 he was advanced to the position of a paid fire truck driver. Eddie would serve in this capacity until his death, April 3, 1946 , of a sudden heart attack.  This occurred while Eddie was on duty at the fire hall. He was known for his work on the beautification of the "Toughs" hose team station. The B.O.P.E. Elks Lodge members assissted in his funeral.
