Description

Apache woman in front of a wikiup.

The Apache lived a seminomadic lifestyle and didn’t live in permanent structures.  A traditional Apache dwelling is called a “wickiup", an oval or round shelter made of brush. Leafy branches were draped over it during summer and animal hides during winter to provide insulation. Because of the nomadic nature of the Apaches, these dwellings were designed to be temporary.
