Eugene Murray Jerome (b.1845 - d.1914) was born on October 31, 1845 in Syracuse, New York. He was the son of Addison Gardiner Jerome, born in 1811 in Onandaga, New York and Julia (Gould) Jerome, born in 1818 in Onandaga, New York.
Eugene was a graduate of Columbia Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1878. He practiced law in New York City for 25 years.
He was the founder of the copper mine in Jerome, Arizona which became the United Verde Copper Company (UVCC). He served as secretary of the UVCC in 1881. When the mine was incorporated in 1883 he served as secretary and treasurer. The city of Jerome was named for him.
He married Paulina von Schneidau on July 1, 1867 in Chicago, Illinois. They had three daughters.
Upon retiring, he and his wife went to live with their daughter and son-in-law, Julia Gould (Jerome) Hoyt and Willard Hoyt, in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Eugene died on February 17, 1914 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was buried at Williams College Cemetery in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
