Silver Belt Mine, Humboldt area, Yavapai County, Arizona Territory, c. 1890's.
The Silver Belt Mine was a lead and silver mine located in Yavapai County, Arizona at an elevation of 5,000 feet. It was located near the towns of Dewey and Humboldt and the Iron King Mine. Its’ first years of production were in the early 1870’s. Its’ last production year was 1924.
The Silver Belt Mine, along with the Kicker, Rebel, Great Belcher and others, was part of a mining swindle scheme backed by a group known as The Brokerage Company who promoted a number of played-out mines in the Big Bug Mining District. The properties were advertised as major producers, some properties were equipped with empty buildings, and railroads to the sites were promised. Smoke and mirrors. The Company’s scheme even included a handsome prospectus and a number of gold bars bearing impressions of gold coins that were supposedly made from them.
