John Cyrus Stephens (b. 1861 – d. 1939) was born February 1861 in Denton, Texas; died May 25, 1939 in Prescott, Arizona. His parents were Varney Andrew (b. 1820 – d. 1904) and Nancy A. (Ball) Stephens (b. 1822 – d. 1908). All told, his parents had five children.
In the 1880 census he is shown as single, age 19, living in Prescott (as were his parents) and his occupation was stock raiser. He married Laura Susan (Clay) Stephens (b. 1870 – d. 1936) who was born November 22, 1870; died December 1936.
He was a retired merchant (he was the co-owner of the retail store, Kelly and Stephens), a cattleman and a director of the First National Bank. He resided in Prescott 75 years.
At the time of his death, he was survived by two daughters, Beryl Elizabeth Stephens (b. 1890 – d. 1943) and Myrtle E. Stephens (b. 1892 – d. 1971), both of Prescott, and a sister, Mrs. Warren Potts of Sacramento, California.
