Harry Funk, Prescott Fire Department Chief. Harry served in this capacity from 1944 -1945.
Arthur Harrison Funk or "Harry" as he was known to friends, was born in Arkansas City, Kansasin 1890. He lived in Kansas until 1912, when he relocated to Prescott Arizona.
In the 1930s, Harry opened his own sign shop titled , "Funk Neon Sign" located on West Gurley Street in Prescott along with his friend and business partner L.W. Christensen.
Harry served in the millitary during World War I (WWI) and was drafted for military service again in 1942, for World War II (WWII). His draft registration stated that he still resided in Prescott and also listed his wife, Phyllis, who had passed away on May 28, 1941. At this time, the Funk family cconsisted of Harry, his married daughter Helen (Funk) Patterson and his sons Richard and Jack.
Harry was involved with the Prescott Volunteer Fire Department and served as the department's Fire Chief from 1944- 1945. His connection to the Fire department did not end in 1945, but continued through the years. In 1962, he served as a board member on the Prescott Volunteer Fire Department.
Harry continued to run his sign shop business until his retirement and subsequent move to Las Vegas Nevada in 1977. Harry died January 5,1984 in Las Vegas and was survived by his daughter Helen, his son james and five grandchildren.
