Jules "Gus" N. Rodenburg (b. 1849? - 1913) died in 1913 at approximately 64 years of age. He was a native of Bremer-Voeerde, Germany, spent his boyhood in Chile and Mexico City, then moved to San Francisco, California. He arrived in Prescott, Arizona in 1870 where he took charge of the first brewery in Prescott and in Arizona. He opened a new brewery in 1973 and served on the Board of Supervisors in 1979. He provided money for the creation of public schools in Prescott. His obituary showed that he was married to Johanna, had two surviving daughters in San Francisco, California (Mrs. C. R. Curtaz and Mrs. T. T. Goodwin) and a son Fred Rodenberg in Southern Arizona. A second son, Nicolaus E. died March 21, 1877 of scarlet fever at age two years, 15 days.
The back of this photograph contains the typewritten note, "An early-day brewer. Went to the mountains and brought back the most beautiful Christmas trees for the Sunday School Christmas program."
