Description

Mary Frances (Sanders) Miller was born in Girard, Illinois on August 27, 1852. Her parents were Julius Sanders, born in North Carolina on November 1, 1799 and Celia Powell, born in Kentucky on March 31, 1806.

Mary arrived in Arizona with her parents in 1865. She married Samuel C. Miller on April 4, 1867 in Yavapai County, Arizona. They had four sons and two daughters.

Her husband Sam and his brother Jacob owned three farms totalling 800 acres and livestock in the Prescott, Arizona area. They also ran a very successful freighting business in Prescott which consisted of 44 wagons, 20 teams of twelve mule trains, and employed 38 men with more employed at harvest or when needed.

Handwriting on back of photograph reads: "Mary Sanders, Prescott, Arizona, Dec. 22, 1872. Mrs. S. C. Miller"

Mary died of pneumonia in Prescott on December 2, 1908.

Burial at the Arizona Pioneers Home Cemetery, Prescott, Arizona.
