Description

Arthur, "Art" E. Henry was born in 1891 at Prescott, Arizona.  Art started his working career as an engineer for the SantaFe, Prescott and Phoenix Railroad in the early 1900s .

Art was very involved with the Prescott Volunteer Fire Department for most of his adult life.  He was able to expand on his  experience with the Railroad and became an engineer for the fire department. 

Art was installed as The Fire Chief on February 4, 1929 and served in this capacity  until March 21, 1932..  He was the individual who instigated the departments'joining the National Fire Protection in New York City's committee on Fire Prevention and Cleanup.  His work on this committee made an important advance for the Prescott Fire Department's success in evolvinginto an effective firefighting team.

Art died June 14, 1933. His obituary included this condolence written by T. Alfred Fleming, chairman of the National Fire Protection Association, "I am very sorry to learn of the death of our friend, A. E. Henry.  I  have watched the results from Prescott for a number of years and I have realized the value of this Chairman of the Prescott Fire Prevention Committee as a leader whose enthusiasmwas well founded , who wass able to secure results by knowing how to handle and lead men."
