Description

Sarah "Sollie" (Appel) Carr (b. 1869 - d. ?) was born in 1869 in Sonora, Mexico to Nathan Benjamin Appel, born in Hochstadt, Germany on April 14, 1828 and Victoria, born in New Mexico in 1840. Sarah was one of their six children.

Her father was a well known Arizona pioneer who was a member of the House of Representatives from Tubac, Arizona in the First Territorial Legislature. He served as Chief of Police of Tucson and as Deputy Sheriff in 1884. He moved to Los Angeles, California and served as a police officer and bailiff of the Los Angeles police court.

Sarah studied music in Boston, Massachusetts and was known for her lovely soprano voice. While living in the East, she was the recipient of many flattering notices from the musical critics of many principal papers. Upon leaving Boston, Sarah returned to Los Angeles in October, 1894.              

Sarah married James O. Carr on December 18, 1895 in Los Angeles, California. James was an attorney for the General Electric Company in Schenectady, New York.

Handwriting on back of photograph reads: "To my friend Mrs Aitken, Yours in return is the wish of your friend. Sollie Appel, Los Angeles, California. Jan 15, 1899."

Death and burial unknown.
