Description

Chino Valley Store, likely located on Highway 89 in Chino Valley, with unidentified people on porch.

In 1909, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad (AT&SF) signaled a new era for Chino Valley. Jerome Junction was created to provide a transfer point between the narrow gauge coming over from Jerome, Arizona, and the Santa Fe railroad going from Prescott to the main line at Ash Fork. Chino Valley became a major railroad junction complete with stockyards, Wells Fargo office, post office, school, and a hotel.

In 1920, most of the business activity of Chino Valley moved west along Highway 89. The Chino Valley Store, with adjoining post office and bus depot, was likely located along the highway.
