Major Alexander O. Brodie (b. November 13, 1849; d. May 10, 1918). He graduated from West Point in 1870 and came west to Arizona as a cavalry lieutenant. In 1891 he was appointed first commander of Arizona's National Guard. When Theodore Roosevelt was appointed commander of the "Rough Riders" during the Spanish-American War of 1898, Major Brodie was appointed second in command. In 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt appointed Colonel Brodie to be the new governor of the Arizona Territory.
