Description

Viola Jimulla (b. 1878 - d. 1966) was born on June 15, 1878.  She came to Prescott, Arizona in 1900 and in 1922 became the first Yavapai Indian to be baptized into the Presbyterian Church.

She was a master basket weaver and one of her designs has been adopted by the Yavapai-Prescott Tribe. She served as Chieftess from April 21, 1940 to 1966.

She was instrumental in enlisting the aid of her non-Indian friends, including Senator Carl Hayden, in setting aside the 1,000-acre reservation near Prescott. She died on December 7, 1966.
