Description

This photograph shows Dr. Robert Robinson’s surviving children from his first and second marriages.  Joseph William Robinson (standing), who went by William, with his sister Gertrude “Gertie” Robinson (seated far right) are the adult children from Dr. Robinson’s first marriage, The other two girls are Beryl Robinson (seated far left) and Fern Robinson (seated center) from Robinson’s second marriage.

Joseph William Robinson, who is listed in various censuses as William, is the oldest and only living son from Dr. Robinson’s first marriage with Isabel Jane “Jennie” Vandervort.  William was born on October 28 or November 5, 1868 in Indiana.  William’s sister is Gertrude L. Robinson who was born in August 1873.  Gertrude later married Edward Oglesbee and had two daughters named Isabel and Eloise Oglesbee.  Their mother, Jennie Robinson, died in 1876 and three years later Dr. Robinson married for a second time.

Beryl D. and Fern Adelaide Robinson are the children from Robinson’s second marriage with Florence “Frances” Loretta Darby, who Dr. Robinson married on September 18, 1879 in Indiana.  Beryl was born on August 9, 1880 in Indiana, but moved with her parents to Prescott, Arizona Territory in 1882.  Robinson set up his medical practice and worked for nine (9) years in Prescott.  During this time, his second daughter with Frances, Fern, was born on July 12, 1889 in Prescott.  These sisters grew up in Prescott, but the entire family did return to Indiana in 1891 due to health-related issues with their father.  On September 9, 1891 Dr. Robert Robinson passed away.  Soon after, Frances and her daughters returned to Prescott to be closer to her sister Flora (Darby) Howard and her husband Judge John Howard.  In 1894, Frances married Alonzo Kendrick and later Frances and Alonzo moved to California.

In March, 1899, Beryl is listed in a newspaper article as being the new assistant in the Sunset Telephone office in Phoenix, Arizona. Beryl later married H.C. Freeman and moved to California.  On August 14, 1972, Beryl died in Oakland, California. Fern married Benjamin Franklin Bean Wallis on September 18, 1913 in San Francisco, California. She died on October 16, 1957 and is buried in Glendale, Los Angeles, California.
