Description

Martha (Evans) Hutchinson married Charles S. Hutchinson on June 14, 1882 in Yavapai, Arizona.  He was a druggist whose establishment was located on Gurley Street in Prescott, Arizona.

Handwriting on back of photograph reads: "(Mrs. Charles) Martha Evans Hutchinson, wife of 1st druggist in Prescott, sister of Jessie Evans Wycoff.

Matty was one of five Evans sisters who came to Prescott from Fayette County, Pennsylvania.  They were said to have been among the pioneer women who brought culture and civility to Prescott.

Her sister Virginia (Evans) Sewell was married to Charles Albert Sewell, who was an officer and doctor at Fort Whipple and had served as an army surgeon under General George Crook.

Her sister Jessie (Evans) Wyckoff married Reverend Wyckoff, who was pastor of Prescott Congregational Church.

Her sister Rebecca (Evans) Buffum (b. 1833 – d. 1925) married William M. Buffum, an early Prescott merchant, member of the territorial legislature, and one of the first investors in the United Verde Copper Mines.

Her sister Mary Louise M. (Evans) Bashford married William C. Bashford, co-founder of the Bashford-Bermister mercantile store.
