Description

The Highland Hotel was located in Prescott, Arizona, on the corner of Goodwin and Montezuma Streets. It was constructed after the Fire of July 14, 1900, replacing the old Scopel Hotel in the same location. Ferdinand “Frank” Scopel was born July 1858 in Sirene, Italy/died March 11, 1931 in Prescott, Arizona. His father was John Scopel, who was born in Italy, and died in Prescott. At the time of Frank’s death, he was married to Emma Scopel (born January 8, 1871 in Zurich, Switzerland/died May 10, 1960 in Clarkdale, Arizona). Emma, a 54-year Prescott resident at the time of her death, was the sister of Frank’s first wife. Frank arrived in Prescott in 1882. Files show he held a mining claim in 1889 in “Crook Canon.” He owned the Highland hotel, formerly the Scopel hotel, on south Montezuma and Goodwin St, as well as a group of flats and apartment houses.
