James Merrill Cash (b. 1868 - d. 1953) was born June 5, 1868 in Oxford, Maine. At the time of his death, he had been a resident of Arizona for seventy years, and of Prescott, Arizona eight years.
His published obituary in the Yavapai County Messinger stated that he was one of the last mule skinners running a pack train into the Iron King area in the early 1900s. He was employed as the summer custodian at Castle Hot Springs for some time and wrangled horses in that area for thirty years. Later he was a Salt River Valley chicken farmer and also was a well-known hunter and trapper.
At the time of his death on March 13, 1953 he was a resident of the Pioneers' Home in Prescott. He was survived by his sister, Mrs. Annie Robbins of Tucson, Arizona and his brother, Charles C. Cash of Santa Barbara, California. He is buried in the Pioneers' Home Cemetery.
