Description

Dave Berry with mule.

David Berry (b. 1881 - d. 1961) was born on October 26, 1881 in Nevada, Missouri and died on October 26, 1961 in Prescott, Arizona. He was the son of W. G. and Mary Jane Irvin Berry.  His draft registration card indicates he was a stockman.  According to his obituary, he had been in Prescott since he was ten years old and that he worked as a miner and on various ranches.  At one time he had his own mine in the Walker area.  He had two nephews, Clarence Berry and Jerry Cashell and a sister-in-law, Pearl Hanson, all of Prescott.

Information on catalog card indicates picture was taken in Poland, Arizona. Poland is now a ghost town. Poland's post office was established November 16, 1901 and was discontinued February 15, 1913. The town is named after the mine discoverer Davis Robert Poland who located the claim in 1872. Over 800 people lived in Poland in 1902.

Handrwritten on back of photo: Dave [or Dane?] Berry - 1956.

The written name could be either Dave or Dane and the name on the catalog card was changed to Dave Berry, but no information was found for Dane Berry.
