The hotel was managed by proprietor Daniel Hatz. One of the first hotels in Prescott, the Pioneer Hotel housed a bakery, confectionery, and eating house. At first the hotel was known as the Oriental, but later became the Pioneer Hotel or Pioneer House.

Handwriting on back of photograph is: "Pioneer Hotel - Property of Daniel Hatz - about 1869? Located at about the middle of the block between Goodwin and Carleton Streets on South Montezuma on the right going out of town." Source: Sharlot Hall Museum: Days Past.
