Description

This photograph show the back or rear view of the Govenor's Mansion building, with the kitchen on the right and open stable on the left. Handwriting on the back of photograph is: "Rear view of old building - snap shot by Jennings - shortly before death of Judge Fleury, about 1894."

The Governor’s Mansion is the oldest building associated with the Arizona Territory still standing on its original location. Built as a log cabin in 1864, it was the center of Arizona’s territorial government from 1864-1867.

In 1895, the life tenant Judge Fleury dies, and the Mansion is left to the Congregational Church in Judge French’s will. The First Congregational Church of Prescott sold the site of the GM to Joseph Dougherty for $1,500.
