Back of the Walnut Grove Dam after the 1890 flood, showing an empty lake basin. The dam broke on February 21, 1890, due the the massive flooding of the Hassayampa River. The death toll was estimated at between 70 and 100 people and is considered one of the greatest natural disasters in Arizona history.
