Description

Reverend Edwin "E. D." Dunham Wyckoff (b. 1859 - d. 1952) was born August 2, 1859 in Illinois; he died August 4, 1952 in Los Angeles and is buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale (Los Angeles), California. He was the son of James Dunham Wyckoff (b. 1832 - d. 1909) and Mary Angeline Humphrey (b. 1835 - d. 1921). His wife Jessie (or Jesse) Evans Wyckoff (b. 1869 - d. 1954) was born January 7 (or 3), 1869 in Pennsylvania. She died February 24, 1954 in Los Angeles and is buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale (Los Angeles), California. Her mother’s maiden name was Morgan. Jessie was the niece of Rebecca (Evans) Buffum, Louise (Evans) Bashford and Virginia (Evans) Sewell.

Birth and death dates for the four children are: Helen Ramona (b. 1891 in Illinois - d. 1976), Ruth Mary (b. 1893 in Illinois - d. 1987), James Dunham (b. 1895 in California - d. 1972) and Edwin Morgan (b. 1899 in Prescott, Arizona - d. 1967).

Pictured from left to right are: The Reverend Edwin Dunham Wyckoff, his three children—James Dunham, Helen Ramona and Ruth Mary (in front)—and his wife Jessie Evans Wyckoff.

Handwritten notes on another photograph indicate that Edwin organized the Wyckoff Society, a choral group in Prescott, Arizona, before he was married. After his marriage, he became pastor of Prescott’s Congregational Church for three years (1888-1890), after which he moved to Illinois.

The 1900 census shows his living in Douglas, Nebraska. The 1920 census shows his living in San Gabriel, Los Angeles, California and he continued to live in the Los Angeles area until his death in 1952. He devoted his life to church organ and choir work, private lessons and composition.
