Description

Alvin Stuart Haskell (b. 1845 - d.1924) was born November 28, 1845 in Deer Isle, Maine. His parents were both born in Maine.

Alvin Haskell came to Prescott from Maine in the late 1860s by stagecoach through the Yuma Crossing. He was one of the first Prescott settlers. He married Helena “Nellie” Miles on December 3, 1876. They had a daughter, Elva (Haskell) Carroll.

Alvin was involved in a number of different endeavors. He bought a ranch south of Jerome, which he sold to the United Verde Copper Company to use as a source of water. Newspaper, Arizona Miner, articles indicate that in 1876 he was superintendent of the Curtis Sawmill, and that in 1881 he had a mining claim on the Alta lode in Aqua Fria Valley. In 1881, he was also co-owner of the Wilson and Haskell Sash Door and Blind Factory mining claims. He was elected to the board of supervisors and was one of the men responsible for building the original brick courthouse. He was a Mason and a member of the Aztlan Lodge in Prescott, Arizona. Alvin was the nephew of Judge Noyes.

Handwriting on photograph reads: "Alvin Haskell, nephew of Judge Noyes. Came to Prescott in late 60's by stage coach through Yuma crossing. Married Nelly Miles."

He died on January 17, 1924 in Los Angeles, California.

Burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Los Angeles, California.
