Description

This is a photograph of the William Coles Bashford gravestone located in the Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, California.

William Coles Bashford (b. 1853 - d. 1915) was one of seven children of Coles Bashford (b. 1816 - d. 1878), a prominent Prescott businessman and Arizona politician and Frances Adams (Forman) Bashford (b. 1827 – d. 1911). He married (Mary) Louise (Evans) Bashford (b. February 16, 1850 in Ohio d. 1928) from Fayette County, Pennsylvania. In 1978, they purchased the Bashford House and renovated and added to it.  The house is now located on the Sharlot Hall Museum grounds.

In 1874, William, along with Robert H. Burmister (b. 1847 - d. 1946), became partners in the L. Bashford and Company store. When Levi Bashford retired in 1886, the business became known as the Bashford-Burmister Store.

The Bashfords moved to Los Angeles, California in 1902.
