Description

The southeast corner of Goodwin and Cortez Street in Prescott was the site of Howey Hall, which was built on the first lot sold (for $175) in Prescott by James Howey in 1876. The Goldwater family opened M. Goldwater & Bros. Mercantile on Cortez Street here in 1876. It was later converted to an opera house. It was a secondhand store when the City of Prescott purchased it in 1904 for a fire station. Howey Hall was demolished in 1959, replaced by the current [2020] Prescott's City Hall Building
