The earliest reference to the New River, Arizona, stage stop was printed in the Arizona Sentinel, dated September 25, 1875. A Mr. Griffith, state agent for Kerens and Mitchell Stage Line, informed the newspaper editor that the New River station would be abandoned immediately. The editor then concurred stating, "This is a good move as that station has been so infested with Mexican robbers and border outlaws that it has been impossible to find a reliable man who will stay there."
