Description

Featured in the photograph are stage station proprietors Mr. and Mrs. Henry Spaulding with their children Ida, Emma, and Clarence;  Ginger, their Apache boy; and the Chinese cook.

Originally known as the Agua Fria Station, Spaulding Station was located near present-day Dewey, Arizona, and established by Henry Spaulding sometime before 1876.  Spaulding's Station was a stopping point for travelers. Stagecoach travel did not formally begin for another two years. On December 3, 1888, Spaulding sold his ranch to Robert DeLarge, a stock raiser of New Mexico.
