Graves of George Hance (b. 1848- d. 1932) and Partheny H. Hance (nee Partheny Harden) (b. 1855 - d. 1916) in Masonic Cemetery. Partheny was born in Alabama on February 12, 1855 and came to the Verde Valley in 1876. On April 2, 1878 she married Judge George W. Hance. The couple had four children: three daughters (Josephine, Frances and Eva) and one son (Harvey). George Washington Hance was born on October 7, 1848 in Seviere County, Tennessee. In December 1867, he was assistant wagonmaster on the Navajo expedition, moving the Navajo Indians from their reservation on the Pecos River at Fort Sumner, New Mexico, to Fort Defiance in Arizona. George owned the Cienega Ranch, located between Camp Verde and Prescott. He served for 56 years as justice of the peace at Camp Verde, and as territorial census marshal in 1880.
