Description

This is a fresh grave inside the cemetery grounds of the Aztlan Lodge No. 1 Masonic Cemetery located at 410 W. Carondolet Road in Prescott, Arizona.

Tree branches were often placed over a fresh grave while the mound was still recent.

Aztlan Lodge No. #1 Masonic Cemetery is owned and maintained by the Lodge in order to have burial grounds for its members and their families. The land on which the cemetery is situated was donated to the Lodge sometime in the 1870s by Henry Waring Fluery (b. 1817 - d. 1895). A grand panoramic view of downtown Prescott can be seen from the hilltop plateau on Carondolet Road where the cemetery is located. There are numerous Arizona pioneers, Civil War veterans, both Union and Confederate, as well as Masonic members and their families that are interred at this local historic cemetery.
