Description

Miss Bailey and the kindergarten class in the Odd Fellows Lodge during the fall of 1903. The Odd Fellows Lodge, located on the northeast corner of Cortez and Goodwin Streets, was constructing a new building on their lot. They moved the old building to the middle of Goodwin Street and set on pilings.

In 1903, the Washington School was not quite ready for students so the kindergarten, first, and second grades met in the Lodger Hall. After Christmas recess, these classes were able to move to the new Washington School. When the Lodge Hall was competed, the old building was moved from Goodwin Street to the north side Gurley between Granite Street and Granite Creek. It remained at this location for over forty years.

This information was obtained from an account written by Charles Dewe Born, who was a member of the class and is in the picture.
