Enlarged photograph appears in The Townsmen, a book describing how towns were founded in the West and their governments and institutions, which was published by Time-Life Books in 1975 (see 8x10 print in file). Type on back of photograph is: "Hose Company No. 1 of Prescott, Arizona, turns out on July 4, 1888 for speed competitions against three other volunteer fire companies that safeguarded the community of 1,900 citizens. Prescott's municipal treasury paid for the hose reel, but the firemen had to provide their own outfits."
