Her father was a well-known frontiersman, scout and Indian fighter. Her father was killed by Apaches at Dripping Springs near Mayer, Arizona on September 16, 1873. Years later, her mother, Lizzie, remarried to Meredith Aldridge. Clara originally married George F. Becker, but divorced him in April 1891. Soon after, she married Albert T. Vroom, who was a stage driver. Clara had two daughters who are named Lena and Lou. A daughter, Mrs. Grant Merrill, lived in Phoenix at the time of Clara's death. Clara is represented in the Territorial Women's Memorial Rose Garden.
