Description

Clara (Townsend) Becker Vroom was born December 18, 1863 in Burnett County, Texas/died June 19, 1954 at the Pioneer's Home. At age six, she traveled with her parents from Texas settling first in the Lower Agua Fria region, later moving to a cattle ranch in Miller Valley. Her father was John B. Townsend, a well-known frontiersman and Indian fighter. Her mother was Elizabeth (Vickers) Townsend Aldridge. She married Albert T. Vroom. A daughter, Mrs. Grant Merrill, lived in Phoenix at the time of Clara's death. Clara is honored in the Territorial Women's Memorial Rose Garden.
