Auto Rest Motor Hotel opened in 1948 at 1117 East Gurley Street in Prescott by local businessman Saxton L. Power and his wife Bertie. The 21-unit motel was considered quite elaborate at the time, and it advertised in statewide newspapers. In 1952, Power turned Auto Rest over to his son Stanley and his wife Virginia. In the 1960s, Auto Rest became affiliated with the Best Western motel chain, though it later lost that designation. Other owners came and went.
In the mid-1980s, the name was changed to Senator Inn, and the neighborhood on East Gurley was developing a reputation for become “run down”, and this included the motel. It later closed for good. In recent years, it was used, without signage, as a housing complex for the group “U.S. Vets”. Today (2025), the site is reportedly student housing.
