Portrait of Prescott Fire Department Chief, William "Will" Coles Bashford.
In 1863, former governor of Wisconsin William Coles Bashford moved to the Arizona Territory. Bashford was soon appointed its first Attorney General by Governor Goodwin, serving from 1864 until 1866. Bashford was also the first lawyer admitted to practice in the Arizona Territorial Court. After the Territory's capital moved from Prescott, Bashford ran the Bashford Mercantile Store. He resigned in 1876 to stay close to his business interests. Bashford died in Prescott in 1878. Source: Governors of Wisconsin. Geneology Trails.
