Description

Frankie Kautz (b.1875 - d.1962) was born on April 11, 1875 in Prescott, Arizona. She was the daughter of Colonel August Valentine (A.V.) Kautz, Commander of the Department of Arizona Army, as well as other military accomplishments.

Frankie married Alvan Read on August 8, 1903 in Ohio. They had no children.

In 1919, she applied for a U.S. passport to travel to Germany to join her husband, the Inspector General of the Third Army American Expeditionary Forces, following World War I. Her husband died of pneumonia in Germany on January 19, 1920. Frankie was at his side.

Handwriting on photograph reads: "Mrs.Krautz little girl, 1877", Mrs. General Krautz daughter "Frankie" July, 1877" and Frankie Krautz, Fort Whipple, Arizona, 1877".

Frankie died in New York City on December 13, 1962. She was buried alongside her husband at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
