Description

Brothers Burrell and Charles "Charlie" Hatcher. Burrell Hatcher (b. 1885 – d. 1945) was born on June 13, 1885 in Prescott, Arizona. He was married to Estelle (Goldtree) Hatcher and had two sons, Captain B. R. Hatcher, Jr. and Captain William Hatcher, Jr. Burrell Hatcher graduated from the University of Arizona in 1909. He retired in 1931 from his position as the southwestern manager of American Smelting and Refining Company having been there 21 years. Previously, he was with the Tucson Assaying and Engineering Company. He also was superintendent of the Camp Bonito Mining company near Oracle, Arizona, which Buffalo Bill Cody opened. A former mill superintendent of the Y.P. Mining Company, he left it to form a partnership with Miles Carpenter and Dr. D. E. Andrus. The partnership was dissolved when the U.S. entered World War I. Mr. Hatcher became a first lieutenant in the engineering corps. The Arizona Alumni Association awarded him its first annual service award in 1911 for service, devotion and contributions to the university, the community and his profession. Burrell died on July 27, 1945 in San Diego, California. At time of death, he was survived by two brothers, Will of Nogales, Arizona and Charles “Charlie” of California and a sister, Mrs. Norman Scanland.
