Joseph Lancaster Brent Alexander (b. 1856 - d. 1931) was born on December 4, 1856 in California. His father, name unknown, was born in Ohio. His mother, name unknown, was born in California.
He married Amanda Salsig on March 8, 1880 in Los Angeles, California.
Handwriting on back of photograph reads: "Yours Sincerely Jos. L.B. Alexander to Colonel A. O. Brodie." Alexander O. Brodie (b. 1849 - d. 1918) would become Governor of the Arizona Territory from 1902 to 1905.
Joseph was a member of the US Volunteers, who were called upon during wartime to assist the US Army but were separate from the Regular Army and the militia.
The U.S. Census of 1900 lists Joseph as a citizen of Phoenix, Arizona.
Joseph died in Phoenix on January 30, 1931. He is buried in Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary & Cemetery, Phoenix.
