Description

A native of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Andrew L. Moeller (b. 1824 - d. 1885) died in Prescott on January 28, 1885. He was a California 49er, living there until 1863 when he moved to Mohave County and then to Prescott in 1865. He was one of the largest-landed proprietors in Prescott owning, among other properties, the Diana Saloon in 1883, a lot and building which he donated for a library, and the Aztec Mine. He was on the Board of Directors of the Maricopa, Phoenix and Prescott Railroad Company and was twice elected to the Arizona Territorial Legislature to represent Yavapai County, serving as a member of the House of Representatives in the Eighth Legislative Assembly. He also served as a member of the council in the Ninth Legislative Assembly. Alice Moeller was the legal heir of his estate, which included a great portion of what is known as the Moeller Addition, and a large number of lots in the city of Prescott, among which is the site of the Hotel St. Michael. Moeller Street, in current day downtown Prescott, would appear to have been named after him.
