Description

This photo was cut out of a large composite image of the 9th Legislative Assembly.  Sharlot Hall Museum has an original of that image also, call number 1060-0187-0000.This territorial legislative assembly convened in Tucson, Arizona on January 1,1877, and concluded February 9, 1877.  It passed 79 statutes, the most significant being the decision to move the Capitol to Prescott from Tucson.

Cassius Burton Foster was born in Lyons, New York on January 5, 1845.  He came to Prescott in 1871 and worked in the land office as a civil engineer.  He was a member of the 9th Territorial Legislature in 1877, and Territorial Treasurer from 1887-1889.  His sister was the second wife of Levi Bashford.

Cassius Foster died in Prescott on March 16, 1892.  His body was returned to Lyons for burial.
