Prescott Frontier Days has evolved and expanded since it began on July 4, 1888. The rodeo was originally a single-day event, but in 1914 the event was renamed "Prescott Frontier Days" when it started lasting longer than one day. Other changes included the move to host outdoor rodeos at night, which began in 1937. On August 6, 1985, the rodeo was officially recognized as the “World’s Oldest Rodeo” and it celebrated its 100th year of operation in 1988.
