Hinson Thomas (b.1854 - d.1936) was born on January 8, 1854 in Mobile, Alabama. He was the son of Charles L.Thomas, born in 1812, and Emmeline (Warren) Thomas, born in 1816, both born in Massachusetts.
Hinson arrived in Prescott, Arizona in 1875 to become Assistant Editor of the Prescott Courier newspaper. In 1878, he became Chief Clerk in the Senate of the Ninth Arizona Territorial Legislature. After serving a year in that post, Hinson moved to Tucson, Arizona where he became Deputy Recorder for the County. Following that, in 1880, Hinson traveled to Globe, Arizona and became associated with the Globe Weekly Chronicle newspaper. Leaving Globe, Hinson went to Florence, Arizona as Under Sheriff and later was elected County Recorder. Four years later, Hinson again was made a deputy Sheriff in Florence and served an additional four years.
Hinson married Ynez Sanchez in Florence, Arizona in 1886.
In 1895, Hinson returned to Globe and became bookkeeper of the United Globe Mines and the Old Dominion Commercial Company organized by the late Governor George W. P. Hunt. Hinson later served as a Police Justice of the City of Globe for many years. Judge Thomas, as he was familiarly known, was highly thought of as a contributing member of the Globe community and was a respected, admired, and honored citizen. He was one of the pioneers of Gila County and the state of Arizona, and was prominent in the state as a newspaper editor, businessman, county deputy sheriff, and U.S. Commissioner in Globe.

Hinson died on December 14, 1936 in Globe. He was buried in the Globe Cemetery.
