Description

George H. Curry was a Prescott, Arizona watchmaker and jeweler in the 1880s and 1890s. An advertisement shows that he was a dealer in watches, clocks and jewelry and that his store was located on Gurley Street in Prescott.

A Weekly Arizona Journal-Miner article, published January 17, 1889, reported that Geo. Curry had engaged Mr. Will Curry to take charge of his watch, clock and jewelry repairing. Further “all work will be under my personal supervision, and satisfaction always guaranteed.” Will Curry, a Phoenix jeweler, was his brother.

A Wednesday, April 13, 1892 Arizona Weekly Journal-Miner article announced that “The Old and well known jewelry establishment of Geo. H. Curry changed hands on Saturday afternoon.” The business was bought by Cook & Lee of Flagstaff, and that Mr. Cook would remain in Flagstaff, while Mr. Lee would have charge of the business in Prescott. Mr. Curry’s health was stated as a reason. The same edition also shared the information that Mr. Curry expected to erect a mill on his mining property near Stanton during the summer.

An Arizona range news (Wilcox, Arizona) article of February 22, 1901, announced that “Geo. H. Curry, our popular jeweler and assayer has decided to locate at El Paso and would be leaving in a few days. Further, the article states that “El Paso is a growing town and destined to become the metropolis of the southwest and he feels that he has a greater field and better future prospects in that city than here (Prescott).”
