Description

Frances Ellen Michael Frice as a baby San Francisco, California.

Frances Ellen Michael Frice (b. 1888 – d. 1956) was born in May 1888 in Arizona and was the daughter of Mary Michael and Mary’s first husband. Frances was raised by her mother, Mary Michael Laswell and her step father Andrew J. Laswell of Skull Valley, Arizona. She died July 1956 and is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, in San Diego, California.

At age 19, Frances married Charles E. Frice of Mayer, Arizona on December 26, 1907 in Yavapai County, Arizona. In 1909, a Weekly Journal Miner article shows them arriving from Mayer to  Skull Valley, Arizona to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Laswell, and that Mr. Frice was in the mercantile business.

The 1910 U.S. Federal Census shows her living with her husband, age 38, in Mayer, Yavapai County, Arizona.

The 1930 U.S. Federal Census shows her as widowed and the Head of Household living in Prescott, Yavapai County, Arizona. Living with her were her sons John F. Frice, age 8, and Charles Elmore Frice, age 19.

The 1940 U.S. Federal Census, shows that in 1935 she was living in Mohave, Arizona. The same 1940 Census  shows her as widowed, as Head of Household, and living in San Diego, California with her two sons, Charles E. Frice, age 29, and John F. Frice, age 18, and her mother, Mary Laswell, age 76.

In 1947, the obituary notice for her mother Mary Laswell shows she was living with her daughter, Frances, in Ocean Beach, California at the time of her death.

Frances’ mother, Mary Laswell (d. 1947) was a native of Ireland and came to Arizona in the 1890s. Frances was a daughter by Mary’s first marriage and as was George L. Michael, a resident of Prescott at the time of Mary Laswell’s death in 1947. Mary had a second son Oscar Laswell who lived in Gorman, California at the time of her death.
