Alphonso Black Short (b.1859 - d.1939) was born on July 15, 1859 in Mobile, Alabama. He was the son of Thomas Short, born in Texas in 1831 and Margaret (Overton) Short, born in Louisiana in 1840. Alphonso's parents moved to Kendall county, Texas when he was a child. As an adult there he served in public offices, including holding a commissionership.
His first wife was Emily Lee (Davis) Short (in photograph). They had four children. Emily died in 1900. His second marriage was to Annie Louma (Martin) Short and they had four children.
Alphonso moved to Mountain Park, New Mexico in 1889 and lived there 22 years. He then moved to McNeal, Arizona in Cochise county. He applied for land grants for several lots in Douglas, Arizona in 1927.
Alphonso died on October 14, 1939 in Douglas, Arizona. He is buried at McNeal Cemetery in McNeal, Arizona.
Emily Lee (Davis) Short was born on May 28, 1871 in Texas. Her parents were Thomas A. Davis, born in Lauderdale county, Mississippi on March 21, 1845 and Mary Ann (Williams) Davis born on January 1, 1841 in Rankin county, Mississippi.
Emily died on February 8, 1900 in Kendall county, Texas and is buried in Lawhon Cemetery in Kendalia, Texas.
