Description

Alphonso Black Short (b.1859 - d.1939) was born on July 15, 1859 in Mobile, Alabama. He was the son of Thomas Short, born in Texas in 1831 and Margaret (Overton) Short, born in Louisiana in 1840.  Alphonso's parents moved to Kendall county, Texas when he was a child. As an adult there he served in public offices, including holding a commissionership.

His first wife was Emily Lee (Davis) Short. They had four children. Emily died in 1900. His second marriage was to Annie Louma (Martin) Short and they had four children.

Alphonso moved to Mountain Park, New Mexico in 1889 and lived there 22 years. He then moved to McNeal, Arizona in Cochise county. He applied for land grants for several lots in Douglas, Arizona in 1927.

Alphonso died on October 14, 1939 in Douglas, Arizona. He is buried at McNeal Cemetery in McNeal, Arizona.

His brother, John Thomas Short, was born on April 26, 1861 in Kendall county, Texas. He married Ella Maude (Gover) Short in 1884 and they had 10 children. Ella died in 1917. Census records indicate that John was a farmer.

John died on December 8, 1935 in Boerne, Texas. He is buried at the Short Cemetery in Kendall county, Texas.
